GovHack 2016 is almost upon us! The data is flooding in, the number of mentors higher than ever before, and the excitement, well, there isn’t a Pokeball in the world that could capture it - this year’s GovHack is going to go off!
The biggest in the world?
The chat around the campfire this week was to whether GovHack is the largest, annual, open data hackathon in the world. We concluded it may be, and whilst only 'campfire official', it is an extraordinary achievement that we can even consider this, and only possible because to you! Thank you!
But size isn't everything
Some of the largest GovHack official events have sold out, which is a good opportunity for those who do not yet have their ticket to try out some of the nodes / or regional events. Checkout and tell your friends about the following:
In Queensland, the Brisbane event is almost sold out so consider the Youth Node at the University of Queensland, the Maker Node at Eagle Farm, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Logan, or the FNQ tourism Node in Manunda.
In South Australia, there are still tickets for the main event, but why not consider ’Adelaide Maker’, Playford, Onkaparinga, Mount Gambier, or if you are of a certain age, the Youth Node at Port Adelaide?
In Tasmania, Launceston is almost full so trek over to Hobart, and in the ACT, the Canberra event is filling up, but fear not, the Heritage Node can offer you something completely different.
In NSW the Sydney event is full, but the Fintech Node will be super-cool, or hop on the ferry to Manly Northern Beaches. Parramatta still has places as does Camperdown Games for Learning Node – but not many so be quick!
In Victoria, Melbourne has sold out so jump on the train to Geelong or Ballarat, Point Cook Hack in Wyndham or the Mapspace Node on Exhibition Street in Melbourne.
Tickets are selling fast in WA too, with the Perth event nearing capacity, but Geraldton would be more than welcome to have you along.
The main thing is to get your tickets now to avoid missing out! Plus do tell your friends, and share on social media - they really need to know how good GovHack is!
We know you be flat out mashing up open data but in those moments when you do get time to look around, why not enter the new photo and video competition?
The best photograph and best video will receive a $250 voucher from a retailer of your choice! Videos need not be long (1-2 minutes) - think creativity and content over quantity. The theme? People are data. The Global Operation Team will be the judges...
Clichéd, but true - without our sponsors, GovHack would not exist. It’s that simple, so please take a moment to have a look at who is involved in GovHack, by clicking the image with some of our sponsors below as: a) it will help us maintain their sponsorship for next year; and, b) it lets you know some cool, progressive, companies.
Just some of our amazing sponsors... click the image to see the rest.
Spread the Word
Even if you have a ticket, carry on spreading the word and get your friends involved. The more people who understand open data, and it's potential to make such a positive difference to how communities and governments operate, the better!
Keeping it Social
Keep sharing your tweets and Facebook posts! They are great! @GovhackAU
