It's great to be able to write to you about where we are at with GovHack 2016. It was great ringing around the different organisations and receiving such a positive response to GovHack 2016. Our first step in planning for a major GovHack in 2017 where we can draw attention to the regions obvious strengths considering the events winter timing.
A GovHack event in Cairns focusing on Tourism/Hospitality and the Natural Environment it is built on would be our point of difference when it comes to Tech/IT/Startup growth for our region.
The following is this years effort to date. I have taken the approach to be as open and transparent as it could be in regards to drawing all the elements of GovHackFNQ into a more accessible opportunity. There are googledocs and mailman, let us know where you would like to be added.

Come join us at GovHack FNQ. A govhack event focused on Tourism & Hospitality in Tropical Queensland. With over 2 million international and domestic tourists a year visiting Cairns and the Far North it has the ability to be the home to many innovative Tech Startups.
GovHack gives us the opportunity to understand how these publicly available Data Sets can further improve new and existing businesses in the region through the development of new startups while fueling the current fireups

GovHack encourages participants to use publicly released HYPERLINK government data to propose ways the data can be reused to provide benefits and services to the community.
The GovHack event is an annual open data competition held all over Australia and New Zealand. This year the weekend event will be run from 29-31 July and will occur simultaneously at multiple locations across Queensland.
